Overview
The awards are given out once an year. The first ceremony will take place in August 2007 in Las Vegas, coninciding with BlackHat USA. Of course the conference is in no way affiliated with the Pwnie Awards, but it provides a good excuse for most people in the community to be there.
Award categories
In 2007 there are going to be seven award categories:
- Pwnie for Best Server-Side Bug
- Pwnie for Best Client-Side Bug
- Pwnie for Mass 0wnage
- Pwnie for Most Innovative Research
- Pwnie for Lamest Vendor Response
- Pwnie for Most Overhyped Bug
- Pwnie for Best Song
Nominations
The first Pwnie Awards will accept nominations for bugs disclosed in the last two years, from June 1, 2005 to May 31, 2007. Subsequent award ceremonies will accept entries only from the previous year.
Nomininations will be accepted from July 21 until July 28. On the next day the top 5 nominees for each category will be announced on the website. The judges will gather at an undiscolosed location and vote on the winners. In the event that a judge is nominated, they will have to abstain from the vote for that particular category.
Judges
The Pwnie Award nominations will be judged by a panel of respected security researchers - the closest to a jury of peers a hacker is likely to ever get.
